Who Am I?

I am a Nursing Student. I am Exhausted. I am Determined. I am Motivated. I am Having Fun. I have three more weeks of my first semester in nursing school and I have to say that the last few months have been some of the most interesting, challenging, and educating of my life.

The last few months have been so jam packed with information that at times I feel my head cannot fill it all. And the test I have been given have been pretty fun, surprisingly. The tests are different from what I am used to but I enjoy the challenge for the most part.

To learn all of this information and to pass with good grades requires having to sacrifice sleep some nights. I have become a coffee/cappuccino/latte connoisseur, if you would like I can recommend several quality coffee shops in the Inland Empire. Nursing school teaches you how to be a good nurse, but it also teaches you how to manage your time and to prioritize.

Along with the coffee I developed a determination to push forward and read just one more chapter.

My classmates keep me motivated to do better. They are such intelligent people and they push me to be the best nurse I can be.

Travel plans

There are many places I would like to travel, but I am going to wait until I finish my education. Though it would be amazing to immediately, it is best to wait until I am financially independent and stable. The first place I would like to travel to is Sweden. The scenery is supposed to be gorgeous and picturesque. It would be a nice place to relax and spend quality time with family. Recently my sister gave birth to my niece and I would love to meet her and get to know her.

Before my niece was born, my sister traveled quite a bit and I would like to see some of the places she visited. Next on my list would be Italy. My sister said that the food there is worth the distance and I would like to experience that. The scenery is also gorgeous and would love to explore it.

I once took an ancient history class and I have always been interested in Greece and Rome. It would be an amazing experience to explore the various historical landmarks and temples.  I would also like to visit Vatican City and tour the various churches. I have done research for papers and homework, so I have seen various images of the architecture and art there and I feel it is one of a kind.

My favorite places to visit would those with naturally beautiful scenery and exceptional food. I appreciate the modern conveniences and the comfortability of living near the city, but I find nature relaxing and relaxation is my goal when traveling. Food and eating are some of my favorite hobbies so a place worth visiting is one with a specialty I can't find anywhere else. There are many other places I hope to visit one day but I would always come back to California. It has everything I would look for amazing beaches, food, and the weather is the best in the world.

Life as a Nursing Student

When you apply to Nursing School everyone will tell you that for the next three years you will have no life. Honestly I was skeptical despite the many warnings. I was confident in my academic ability and capability as a student. I knew there would be some struggles, but I thought it would be manageable with only minimal effort. However we are barely four weeks in and I must admit that this has been the most challenging four weeks of my academic career.
In Nursing School academic knowledge is only a part of the whole of our education. I think the two most important things we can and need to learn in this program are: how to stay organized and to prioritize. Organization has always been a struggle for me, but I have never been so aware of its importance as when I started Nursing School. Starting now procrastination does not exist in my vocabulary.
Prioritizing is just as important to a nurse as it is to a student. It is possible to have a life in this program, but at times I will have to make the more difficult decision. Getting a degree in Nursing is hard work. To get the grades I want and to become the kind of nurse I want means having to forgo hanging out with friends and going to a movie when I have to finish some reading. Like in Nursing you have to make the choice that is most vital even if it is not the easiest.
I know the next few years will be tough, but that does not mean to say I do not feel blessed to be where I am. It is actually the opposite. In the last few weeks I have met some amazing people. They are so smart and dedicated to becoming a nurse, that I feel they push to improve and better myself in every way. This program is so competitive; we all want to be the best. Despite this I can honestly say these people in my cohort are some of the most helpful people I can hope to meet. I am extremely excited for what comes next.
